I'm been pulling at my brain trying to remember exactly how this story goes. I first heard it in a college lit course about 5 years ago- I loved the story- but now can't seem to remember how it goes. Here's all that I can remember( sorry for such terrible detail)-
There was a wife/mother, she had 2 kids. I'm not sure if she took her husbands eyes out so he couldn't see, or if he did that to her. But I think she murdered her two kids--or the husband did. But I remember at the end of the story the wife/mother and the 2 kids ride off in a fire chariot (i think) in the sky.
I know, I know, the details SUCK, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about and can clear up the story, or tell me anything about it, where i can find the story, i'd really really appreciate it!!

This sounds somewhat like the tale of Jason and Medea. She betrayed her father Aetes to help Jason seize the Golden Fleece in Cochis. Her brother Absyrtius pursued the Argo,Jason's ship, with a fleet. She lured him into an ambush, and Jason slew him. After all this, Jason discarded her when she began to show age and was going to marry a princess. Medea was a sorceress, so she sent a robe to her rival that burned her to ashes when she donned it. The girl's father was also killed trying to save her. Then, Medea killed her sons by Jason and fled in a chariot pulled by winged beasts of some sort. Jason ended his days as a beggar, and was killed when a piece of the rotting Argo fell upon him.

That's Medea. Read Euripide's "Medea." It's really good.
