Firstly i might ask , why do you need to change the battery and is this the cause of your problem, the straight answer to your question is first find the battery them remove by disconnecting the - wire first then the + wire then battery is ready for removal. when fitting new battery always fit + first then - that way you avoid shorts or spikes that can blow diodes in your rectifier if worse still your CID
