I am over weight as well and we couldn't hear the babies heartbeat at 14 weeks either. It is harder to hear when we are over weight. I am sure a lot of women who are over weight will tell you the same thing.

If your OB/GYN has gotten a heartbeat on the doppler before, make an appointment. In reality, this is a situation that your OB/GYN will need to check out.
I hate to be harsh, but 15 years ago this May I was in your shoes. I was 14 weeks pregnant. Everyone kept telling me how I'd made it past 12 weeks and that I was "safe." My next appointment, the heartbeat wasn't apparent. My OB/GYN immediately did an ultrasound and found the fetus had died. The fetuses size was 9 weeks, so I'd been carrying the baby for an additional 3 weeks after it died.
This doesn't mean that it happens that way with everyone, but the possibility is there. Just to reduce stress on yourself, especially if the fetus is fine (Neither of you need the extra stress!!), ask your OB/GYN to try again or do another ultrasound.

don't worry. maybe the doppler didn't pick up the heart beat. I would go again to the doctor at the end of 15 week. maybe its best you get an ultrasound if you are stressing yourself a lot instead of waiting
good luck

I too am overweight, but that never stopped the Dr.'s from hearing a heart beat. You may need to suggest that they do an ultrasound vag. Only being 14 weeks the baby's movement won't be all that noticeable just yet. My son to went through the stage of being still when I was pregnant with him, and it totally freaked me out. You need to call your Dr. right away and ask him/her to schedule another ultrasound, but you want it to be vag. just to be on the safe side. Good luck!

I am suprised that your doc did not not another ultrasound. At my 10 week checkup they had a hard time finding mine and my doc said that if she could not find it she would do an ultrasound. All of the sudden she found it. Depending on how over weight you are will make it more difficult. At my visit I was 5'7" 172 pounds and they had no problem even though I am a little over weight

Everythings ok im 14 weeks with my second child and we still cant hear the heart beat. It may mean that youre placenta is in the way or because youre slightly overwieght the baby heartbeat isnt quite as loud as long as the sonogram shows fine then everythings fine

i'm about 20lbs overweight and couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler around 14 weeks. My doctor says that it still is in the early stages of picking it up, so don't even worry about it!!

my midwife wont try to get the heartbeat before 16wks because its not always easy to pick up and if its not picked up the mother will be very worried!! could be that the baby is just in a position that's not easy to pick up
she had trouble picking mine up at 18wks and I'm not over weight or that big.
try not to worry if there was a problem they would have sent you straight to the hospital for a scan.

It is till a little early. Plus you have seen heart beat. Its to early for you to relly feel movement. When are doctors trying again. If they did not seem worried, you should be ok.
