It's all about securing votes, not securing our borders. The way to solve that happens in 08 kick everyone that is up for re-election out of office!

It makes sense if you understand that there are two different issues: securing the border to prevent future illegal immigration and then what to do with the illegal aliens already here. The guest worker program he's proposing is supposed to address the second issue but doesn't do anything to address the porous border.

Because both Republicans and Democrats are corporate whores.
Think about who the guest worker program benefits.

I don't blame Bush for the border issue, but I do support any initiative that allows more Mexican immigrants to work in the U.S. legally.

I don't support Bush's real reasons for the guest worker program. He doesn't care about the social or humanitarian concerns. He's interested in satisfying business concerns. But, whatever... it amounts to good for the illegals.

(1) The illegals are a problem only in two respects, one, security, two, access to social services. Nobody's forcing the states to provide social services to illegals - most of the services shouldn't be provided at taxpayer expense to citizens either.... The security issue is important but radical Muslims aren't likely to risk their lives to come in from Mexico or the Caribbean on a raft - they want to take infidels with them when they go...

(2) My problem with Liberals and illegals is that Liberals won't admit that the influx of illegals is the entire reason for the increase in poverty in the US. There are 2.5 million more poor people than in 2000 but 8.5 million more illegal immigrants, at least 8 million of whom came here dirt poor. That means people are moving UP, just getting replaced more than 1 for 1 with NEW poor people, coming from countries that are destitute PRECISELY because their economic policies are the socialist policies that the Liberals want to try here.

I'm a Democrat and I don't support anything short of punishing big businesses that hire illegals. Something that Republicans won't stand for. We have the laws but Attorney General Alberto Gonzales won't enforce them.

They also support benefits and education for illegals and their children, demanding that all enforcement be on the employer. Granted we need enforcement on the employer, a LOT of people come for our 'free' education, particularly since Mexico doesn't have 'free' universal education for its poor. That is a HUGE magnet.

Since I'm not a Dem, I guess it makes perfect since for me to blame Bush. Oh, and Reagan with his 3.5 million illegal amnesty.
