I wouldnt go so far as to say it was a poor continent. Certain areas are rich in resources, however these over history have been plundered and pirated by other nations leading to alot of corruption throughout the African countries. Causing many people to think that it is a thoroughly poor nation

There are different types of poor, but there are only two types of order, Africa needs positive order, I feel it lacks this but economically every area is doing the best it can with the natural resorces available, or the man made stuff. If we agree that countries need to be balanced then we can see what you mean by poor, but I can think of many places that are worse off than Africa in the economic stuff. But I do think that Mogabe has got the wrong idea about ruling a country, life most dictators he's got it wrong.

The media is full of false stuff. They know what the real Africa looks like, but they don't want to admit. Africa is a very rich Continent, but it has poor government at times. That feed the children stuff is all lies. There are other places with poverty, but they never go to South America, and Asia to feed the children over there.

Africa is one of the wealthiest countries on the planet.
The two main problems are :
1)Exploitation from foreign corporations such as the Oil Companies.
2) Africas Main problem is it`s stone Tribalistic Mentality. Were the Ruling Tribe in a country has all the power.
Look at Zimbabwe, It used to be known as africas bread basket, but with the government it has since it`s first elections it is rapidly becomeing one of the poorest.

Certain parts of africa, africa is a continent as you have stated so the develope of the country differ where you go, like south africa Cape town is a very rich area and very tourist based economy..
You have parts that are further away from the City and less likely to have western infulence...But with any country in this world there are poor parts and rich parts as for Africa being poor in terms of earthly riches far from it you have oil, golds etc but certain goverments in certain parts are too curupt to share the wealth..But the media does like to protray Africa in a negative light as they do with all things that are ethnic..

There are a few places in Africa that are actually very developed and urbanized, almost to the point of a first world country. But there are also many, MANY more places that have not even heard of the world "electricity". Do not even begin to compare America with an African country. We have hospitals, they do not. We have nutritious food to eat, they do not. We have a future, most of them do not. And no matter what you think of Bush's policies, compare him to one of the many African dictators and you will be quite shocked at the difference.

I think it is poor. However it is potentially wealthy. Africa has huge mineral wealth and, in some parts of sub Saharan Africa, a climate and topsoil that makes it a farmer's dream. In spite of this Africans just cannot get their act together.
This is no reflection on the west or the rest of the world. The problem and the answer must lie with Africans

relative to the rest of the world, africa is a poor continent. generally the governments have a lot of money and it isnt dispersed equally. there are lots of rich people in africa, but there are more poor people. the focus on poverty in africa has distracted people from the other poor places - south america and parts of asia. i can understand why you would be annoyed by the focus westerners have on the bad stuff happening in africa. it annoys my african friends too.

Africa is rich in untapped natural resources. I am surprised that Bush and his cohorts have not sassed this out and tried to take over that country as well.

And Western governments have allowed corrupt African governments to survive as it suits their own agenda for the present time. Just wait as see what happens when iraq has cooled.
