I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and I want to add a 512MB memory stick. I have had problems installing memory before and I fried my hard drive. Can someone please give me a step by step instruction and do and don'ts for installing this memory stick correctly and safely?

There is nothing hard about this. There is a cover on the bottom of your laptop (you can find it in the owner manual). You will unscrew the retaining screw. If there is currently no slot open in the memory chamber, you will have to remove the one that is in there. Then insert the new one. NOW - DO NOT HANDLE THE CONTACTS. Either that or wear a grounding strap. Insert the memory and screw the retaining screw back in.

Step 1 - unplug the power cord
Step 2 - open the case
Step 3 - plug the RAM module into an open slot.

it will be both that the motherboard would not settle for/comprehend more advantageous than 512MB of ram or it will be that the portraits card makes use of 512MB of the 1GB yet I doubt that. I checked the motherboard and it would not seem the challenge of accepting the ram so i'm no longer thoroughly effective...strong success

unplug everything from the case, ground yourself, and take the side plate off the case. move the wires on the motherboard out of your way and open the tabs at the ends of the ram slot. push in vertically with gradual pressure. It should either click in or butt up against the slot bottom. Push the slot tabs back into place.

Refer to your motherboard manual. Don't have it? Just check the model No. printed on the M.board and search the manufacturer's site for the manual - pdf.
