Absolutely there is such a thing. I am not sure about these ignorant people who have answered this post thus far. Obviously no experience in the field. There are people who "try" which means deep down they truly do not want to and make "attempts". Those are cries for help that need to be addressed. Then there are those who truly want to die. And truly are wanting to kill themselves. If you want to succeed, no you won't always..............this i know as this is coming from personal experience now, not just from being in the field. Believe me i often wonder how i am still alive! I have many scars to show for it as well as many hospital bills! Suicide whether they are "attempts" or the real thing is a serious matter and needs to be addressed. In my case i hid it and did not tell anyone for years because of those like i see in this post that think that suicidal people are losers and often are called "crazy". It is those people that drive the ones that are at first "attempts" to "for sures". It is good you asked it shows you are a very intelligent person and care about the mentally ill community that is so prevalent and often forgotten in the world we live in today.

You should be able to right? Some people genuinely want to, but they screw that up as well. I saw a kid on Oprah, that put a shotgun in his face and fired,,,,he lived, now he's depressed...and ugly!!! Most just want help and don't know how to ask, but yes, if they really want to, they will succeed, without the "notes", the threatening to do it. crap!!!!

Many people try, but fail, sometimes causing irreparable brain damage or bodily harm. Often it is a cry for help. It is next to impossible to make a correct on-the-spot judgement, but immediate treatment is vital.

Yes there really is people do it all the time but if they are talking about it chances are they will try and people they tell this to should be talking them into getting physiological help.

When someone says that he tried to commit suicide it means that he was going to commit suicide but lacked courage to do it.
