I posted this question yesterday, but everyones solution was to just put her in our room in a co sleeper...I guess my point is no matter where she sleeps if she is flat she will not go to sleep.

I have tried just about everything to get my 10 week old daughter to sleep in her crib....The only way we can get her to sleep right now is either in our arms or in her car seat.

I have tried elevating her mattress a little using towels and that didn't work. I just worry about her sleep in her car seat.

I do suck out her nose before she goes to bed just to make sure she isn't to stuffy. It just seems that anytime she lays flat she kind of freaks out. Any thoughts or ideas?

I would take her to the doctor since this just started. She may have reflux issues, which could cause her pain if she is lying flat. Alternatively, she might have an ear infection. Other than that, I am sorry, but I don't have any great new advice. If there doesn't appear to be any medical reason behind the new sleeping issue, you may just have to ride it out and see if it is a phase. I am not against CIO, but she may be too young for that at this point. Good luck! I hope this passes soon for you.

My son did the same thing and since he was colicky we just let him sleep in the car seat...anything was better than nothing. We would put the car seat in the crib so that he would at least get used to the environment. As he got a little older we gradually tried the crib again here and there....first when he was REALLY sleepy. He eventually learned to feel safe in the crib. He is now 17 weeks and sleeps well in his crib....although he still loves his car seat and will sleep longer when in it.

My son is the same way also. When we first brought him home from the hospital he slept in his crib no problem then he started to not sleep at all in it. He does have reflux, but has had it since he was born, so don't know why all of a sudden he stopped, guess it's a phase. I have seen the reports about infants and car seats also.

Well my best advice is this:
http://www.ambybaby.com/

It is designed for baby sleep and is safer than a carseat. There is some evidence that carseats compromise oxygen, and really carseats are designed to be safe in cars first, and good for a developing babies back a distant second. I know the Amby bed is expensive but is safe for up to 40lbs (and additional spring may be required but I am reasonably sure they include it now).

If that isn't for you take her off to the store and try her in swings and bouncy chairs and find one that is comfortable for her. Really I don't think carseats are safe for prolonged use and you are much less likely to use the safety straps, unlike a swing or bouncy which has a much simpler belt system.

Now, it could be that your baby has reflux. My baby did too. However I strongly believe that if reflux can be managed with physical changes, elevation after feeding, non flat sleeping surface, baby wearing with careful attention to positioning, more frequent smaller feeds then medication should be avoided. Most GER medication have not been approved for use in children under the age of two, and of course all medications have a risk of side effects.

If you suspect it is reflux I can give you more info, just e-mail me.

There is nothing at all wrong with letting her sleep in her car seat right now. A lot of babies go through this when they are little. It helps them feel "held" and secure.....more like when they were in the womb. Try putting the carseat IN the crib to help her get used t othat environment so that the switch to being just in the crib is easier later on.

ETA:
Also, when you try to lay her down flat, is she swaddled? That might help.

Maybe you can start off with putting the car seat in the crib with the rail up of course. Then gradually like during nap times and bed time try to lay him down in the bed and when he wakes up put him in the car seat for a while. It sounds like you need to wean him off of it. Kind of like a bottle. I do hope this helps. Good luck and best wishes.

I went through this with my daughter until she was about 4 months old. She would only sleep in the car seat and would have us rock her until she fell asleep. It drove us nuts. As soon as we put her into the crib she would get up and scream. We then went from car seat to stroller which was just as bad. Fortunately she just out grew this stage only after she outgrew the car seat. Just becareful your child doesn't develop a flat head like my daughter was going to.

Yikes, my answer is going to be the most brief, but here goes: Some babies just dig sleeping upright or reclined, and you know what? Let 'em do it. There is zero evidence that this is harmful to a baby who is at least 8 weeks and can manage some head control. Yup, she WILL outgrow this, and SHE will tell you when that is. Until then, do whatever you need to do so you both get some sleep. I've been there! Good luck. ;)

Have you asked the doc? I don't know but maybe something with her head is bothering her...Does she have like sinus problems or something? I can't htink of anything but it's probably that she just doesn't feel comfy like that. It's not gonna hurt her to sleep in her car seat. My son kinda went thru that but not as bad and he always slept in his car seat when I couldn't get him to sleep in his crib. You should really talk to your doctor about it.

Ha ha. I thought it was just my kids that only slept in their car seat. My son didn't get to his crib til he was about 3-4 months old. He slept perfect in the car seat at night. If that is where they sleep great, then run with it. It's not like he is going to 25 wanting to sleep in it. Enjoy the peaceful nights sleep.
