Two type of net working by which you can achieve your goal.
1. Domain Based:- you will need computers, RJ 45 connectors, Clim ping tool. One 16 port switch & cat 5 cables. You must know the international color code of your cables or you can get it from at&t site or IBM website.. Now you can connect all computer to different port of switch. One computer has to act as server & now this will also connect to port of the switch. Now comes the most difficult part which is installing network & assigning name, power & priviledge to computers. this you can learn from networking mannual of cisco. The another is easy that is work group connection is almost same and rest you will have to learn from a good book, but I can assure you it's not difficult.

The two computers have to be connected - router or crossover cable doesn't matter. they have to be in the same workgroup. Install the printer on one computer. Share it (right click on it/properties/sharing) Wait about 15 minutes. Then, on the other computer, install a new printer - network printer - browse. Look for the printer on the other computer. Select it. You'll probably have to pur the CD into that computer too, to load the driver for the printer. You're done.

All you need is a switch to connect the PCs, and either one of them hosting the printer, or a printer with a direct connection to the network. And if you want to add internet, simply run the switch thru a router connected to a broadband connection.
