Stephen Hawkins, hands down.

Someone who can not walk, talk or barely even move, yet has an IQ off the charts. Of course, IQ has nothing to do with common sense. This is why I believe he is the smartest person in the world.

A very good question but in today's information age, every body has just meager knowledge.
Knowledge is one thing but showing the brilliance is another. More knowledge can be revealed only in case of terrific opportunities which may not be available to many.
I am very found of few world level thinkers - deBono, Stephen Covey and Malcom Gladwell. There are many and I have read some of them.
I am a very common person. Hardly anybody know me other than my wife, child and few friends. But I have some peculiar perception. I am of the conclusion that I am most brilliant in the world as on today.

My Friend Laura! IQ means nothing really, she lives with Autism, doen't speak yet she writes beautiful brilliant Haiku, She also is a very self determined person. QAt one of her IEPs as a kid a teacher told her mom that Laura would never even be able to turn a doorknob. Lauras response was to get up walk to the door grasp the knob in both hands give it a sharp turn & walk out.
Yet she's also very kind and sweet. Extremely loveable.
