I'm an Indian. This is just a thought I'd like to share. so no critisizing ..post your opinions in a mature way

I believe one reason for poverty and backwardness in Africa today is becoz of the slave trade that had been happening for over many centuries. They were supressed, they had no way of discovering and working on their natural talents. I hope you agree

Now shldn't the countries responsible for this do somthing to cleanup their mess? Yes I'm sure they donate for charity & aids, but to be honest, the poverty rate isnt declining as it should. I think its only fair they do somthin more efficient to reverse their mistakes

Spending millions of dollars in Iraq (in the name of finding WMDs but later chaning the reason) to eliminate absolutism and free the Iraqi people from subordination is not even their responsibility.. but the condition of Africa todaywith millions of ppl dying is a result of what they had done in the past..

So which cause deserves more attention?

I'm not saying its US that should do everything.. but they do seem to "lend a helping a hand" in countries which didn not even invite them.. so why not use the same helping nature in Africa.. the amount of money and military used in Iraq could have made a HUGE difference in Africa where people die everyday of causes even unheard of in the US..

Wait, again UK, Spain, Portugal or any other nation that may have played even the slightest role in slave-trade should go back and do more helping than what is being done at the moment...

Oh I'd also like to take this opportunity to point out that countries which colonized other nations and took stuff from them should return these to their rightful owners... The precious stones from tajmahal are being displayed off at a museum which is NOT in India and this isnt fair.. Are they showing off themselves as being Bullies?..

sorry, I dont mean to be rude, but I just think just saying sorry for breaking someones toy isnt really mending their wrong actions..

Yes sparkey, I have agreed US is spending on charity in Africa.. But what I'm implying is this.. ask urself.. Are u saying that the amount attention and planning that is given to Africa is more, or even the same, as that was given to Iraq?

They worked as slaves and this means that they deserve fortunes not powerty...Unfortunately our granparents did it ..and their nephews don't seem to want to pay their debts...

The only think you can do is to sell at the most expensive price the work of a slave , so a waiter deserves a salary of rich man...actually...because having a waiter is a thing deserved only by a king or somebody that does somthing great for others ...maybe a writer , a painter , a car engineer ...a shop asistant who works all day long ...a teacher admired by students....who actually uses his soul and mind in teaching the life ....I don't understand why India has poverty , because AIndia used to be called ''The pearl of England''.So do again the things for which India used to be so -called.

India is an exotic country .Some of my most beautiful cloathes are from INDIA .Your country should develop private affairs and sell at high prices your colourful an natural clothes made out of cotton , etc.For poor contries sell at low prices, for rich countries
you can sell at high prices .It is moral to do so.

Sell your movies on high prices to rich countries and at lower prices to poor countries .I saw a good indian movie, very intelligent , and deserves more then tousands of other films .But you need an advertising to represent your country. I am sure is a good film , I did some film critic on the radio, as hobby.

You could be a rich country because you have natural fabric and imagination in doing cloathes. You can also sell music .I like indian music..

I don't know what to say about tourism , I am not attraced to INDIA, because I am a Christian.I want to visit Israel , who is the land where God has speken and shown up to those who deserve , so I am not very found of India as a touristic point.I also want to see Greece...the monasteries ...But you can win.Cloathes values fortunes in some countries if you count the cloathes of a rich man. You can make his cloathes . make a film that impresses him, sing a song....and be ..natural , as you feel , be indian..I like indians ...they musn't become like other people to be liked ...

Many cultures and societies historically made slaves of captured enemies - should we compensate their decendents?
I have both native American and immigrant ancestors - my immigrant ancestors came here for a better life and worked hard to get it. There was prejudice and barriers to many ethnic backgrounds back then - the English immgrants felt they were above the Irish immigrants, some towns didn't want the Russian immigrants to live there, etc. But these people bucked the hell up and got on with their lives!
Slavery is an atrocity, but I do not think that 140 years after it was abolished we can still "blame" it for the situations that people find themselves in today. If you can't figure it out in 140 years, I seriously doubt that foreign aid is going to help them figure it out any faster!
Besides - there is enough homeless, needy people right here in our own country to worry about. The US has spent so much time giving a damn about countries who just bad mouth us as soon as they are no longer in need of our help that we haven't taken the time to help the people on our own soil.

If these people have problems in their countries then get off their backsides and fix them - lets take American energies and focus it on American citizens. There are too many elderly, poor, disinfranchised people in this country for us to really have the right to go try to fix other people's 140 year old issues!

that's a complicated question. together because it is real that for the period of maximum circumstances, no one compelled them to alter into pregnant, the particularly religious individuals won't admit they campaigned against intercourse coaching that should have helped a number of the poorer, much less knowledgeable women individuals sidestep the pregnancies. in addition they won't admit that they campaigned against countless start administration instruments, drugs, and "morning-after" drugs that would even have stopped a number of those pregnancies. extra, a number of the "existence starts at concept" crowd won't aid you comprehend roughly the different religious denominations that have later beginning factors for existence. everywhere from concept to quickening (first pass) to separation of umbilicus and widespread breath. they gained't admit that in case you tension their perspectives on others, you're denying those others the prospect to stay with the tenets of their very different religions. Sorry,I would be against any monies going to the cause you mention. We give billions annually in foreign aid to Africa and it's only making the war lords more wealthy. So throwing money at the problem is not going to improve it one bit, as it has been proven numerous times it only worsens the condition.
We are a wealthy nation and we are able to multitask quite well. Iraq is a very important mission right now. I'm sorry you are unable to understand the reasons we are there.

What is your definition of "rightful owner?"

My ancesters LEGALLY owned slaves (after coming here as indentured servants). The USA government ILLEGALLY took my ancester's property without just compensation.

Now should I get compensation for the illegally seized property (slaves)?

Should decendants of slaves get compensation for their ancesters' slavery?

If so, should the compensation for slave decendants be reduced to reimburse the slave owners' decendants for the transportation from Africa to the USA?

Should the decendants of the stone age people who were here when the Europeans "civilized" the continent be given compensation for losing wars?

So many questions and claims!

Or should we just forget about ancesterial claims?

Sorry if I limited my response to the USA. I assumed that by Indian you meant American Indian.

If you meant subcontinent indian, then everything pretty much goes the same.

I do not believe compensation is the answer. After all, whites
did not start slavery. as far as helping other countries, why is
there homeless people and poverty here in the US? Take care
of your citizens here in the US and then lend a helping hand to
other nations. This is a personal opinion and it is not intended to
offend anyone.

I wonder why everyone seems to forget about the white man in america the was traded and used as slaves in the same cotton fields, sex field which still goes on today, and all the areas that anyone else was used in. Who is paying me back because my great grandmother was yank out of her home, that was taken from her, and was used as a sex object until she was used up and then thrown out into the feild to work, for a few scraps to eat. What about these people? Where is the compensation for them anfd there families?

What about the Africans themselves? Local tribes were the ones predominately responsible for the capturing and selling individuals into slavery. European nations bought these slaves at several designated places. Local African tribes have to shoulder an EQUAL amount of responsibility for the slave trade and that is historical FACT.

Some of the people in Africa sure had their entrepreneurial skills down and making money off the sale of their own people, so why cant they come up with something else now?

Ok, that was bad, but how come the all the worlds problems have now become my own by force?
