Individual SSN accounts from 18 based on a 70/30 split.

Each person gets 70% of earned money contributed to an individual account based on income. At retirement this money is available in a trust style account for medical bills and cost of living.

To help cover those who cannot work the 30% contributed by each person would provide basic but adequate care.

Completely agree with DAR below on the interests comment. Of course the money would be in accounts that accrue interest.

As President, I'd pressure congress for a law that prevents massive borrowing from the social security to help cover federal budgets. The late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan pushed for this measure but the Republicans wouldn't go along with it. If you do some real research (not just listening to political rhetoric), you will find that the real reason SS is in trouble is because it's been a dipping pool for other things for many years now. This measure alone would "save" our SS money from being depleted.

I would make a law of giving education in schools , real moral education , not maths , math can be chosen as an optional. We all know that those who did bad things are uneducated people or sinners .And I think that the Bible should be given as an optional at the exam of high -school graduation.Others can choose philosophy , literature etc ..I mean disciplines of life , because social problems means problems with life not math problems .

I hope it is a serious answer...at least to God.

If we live in a free country, why should we be compelled to give to a retirement/insurance program that is this bad? Clearly any other choice we make to provide for our insurance and retirement would be a better solution than social security.

People should be free to opt out of social security as long as they have their own insurance/retirement plan.

Excellent answer Blitz. I would prefer 80/20 and those that cannot work need to prove y they cannot work and be willing to take some extensive tests both mentally and physcially to back up their reasons for collecting SS, it should not just be handed to them. But I also have this nagging thought in my head that if you don't pay into SS you don't deserve SS which is extremely unfair and its not something Jesus would do but a fair plan needs to be implemented so that its available for the people that paid into it first and foremost!

The key to Social Security is a salary cap. Stop removing it after $50,000 a year. Then less is owed to that participant and those who need it are better guarenteed it. Make this as retroactive as possible. Millionaires do not need SS removals on their checks.

I'm ok with individual accounts only because I frankly don't trust the government with our money. Look at the social security agreement Bush signed with Mexico!

However, to the person above, the amount earned on that money needs to be available too. Over 50 years, that first dollar compounds many times.

Eliminate social security and since we live in a free country, you can either choose to invest your money in your retirment or work until you die. FREEDOM MEANS YOU MUST BE RESPONSIBLE.

Index it to the COLA and modest tax increases.

I would stop this mess about non working people (people who have never worked) pulling off of their spouses.

You dont pay in, you dont pull out.

No social security for illegals (as they are trying to do).

More tax breaks for those who are saving for their own retirement, those who will not have to rely on social security when they are older.
