I had my palm tree plant sitting on the back burner of my stove while I was cooking rice. When I removed the lid the steam floated up to the long leaves on part of the tree. The next day I noticed those leaves were drooping. I have since moved it, but I wonder if the whole tree will die or just those leaves.

SERIOUS REPLYS ONLY PLEASE

Yes, steam will cause the fluid in the cells of the leaves to expand and break the cell walls, much the same way that freezing will when we get a frost. Give the plant a few days for the fronds to adjust. Most likely you will start to see discoloration before you notice them dropping off. In the mean time get yourself a clean spray mister and once a day give the plant a mist. Like when you get a burn, moisturizing helps you heal. Good luck and enjoy.

Just watch it for a while. There might just be damage that ruins some branches and those can be trimmed off. Hopefully it is only injured and not killed. If that is the case the new growth will come out soon. Try not to remove all the leaves. Take a little time with it and I hope it improves for you.

Yes steam can damage the cells in a plant the same way it damages your cells.

Your plant will recover but you might have to trim it a little. A stove isn't a good place for a plant.

you have cooked your palm tree. prune the "cooked" leaves and branches. The tree should survice as long as you didn't cook it too much.

prune the plant and then MOVE it!

Good Luck!

Probably just those leaves but what a silly thing to do.
