You are RIGHT to minimize the number of times that your PC is TURNED ON and TURNED OFF. But if you only use your PC for an hour per day, maybe you should help to SAVE OUR PLANET by leaving it off most of the time. But if you use your computer early in the morning and late at night, I would just leave it on ALL THE TIME.
Of course, you can also let your computer do some processing for Science. Visit http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Keep it on. Mine stays on 24-7. You can call any pc shop and 9 times out of 10 they will tell you to leave it on. It's not a good idea to shut it down. The only time I shut mine down is when I have to due to an update.

in my view, I turn my computer on interior the morning and turn it off again at nighttime. each and every from time to time, i imagine my computer only desires to relax like I do. consistent hardchronic get entry to can positioned on out your examine/write heads. Leaving your computer on each and every of the time also open you as a lot as hackers on a 24 hour foundation. Turning your comp off once you at the on the spot are unlikely to apply it for a lengthy time period (say, once you're going to mattress) solves that. So i ought to assert turn it off in certain situations.

Use standby for shorter periods of time, and hibernate it for overnight power-saving. Either way you wll be shutting down the hard drives which can easily double or triple their lives compared to leaving them running 24/7.

turn the PC off when unattended , they have been known to accumulate household dusty fluff & catch fire with the cpu heat etc:
( a local familie's house burnt down over the holiday season & that was the suspected cause )

..... It's better to shut it down,.... because if you dont,... then it is still semi operating.... The longer internal component's are exposed to low voltage or low heat,... the shorter,.. terminal's,. fuses,. and circuit board's last.... The early replacement of part's is expensive,... but can be avoided by eliminating uneccessary heat exposure to your computer by shutting it down overnight... It does'nt surprise me that repairer's would tell you to leave them on,.. because it mean's your part's will fatigue and wear out faster.... Save uneccessary repair bill's,. and close it down...
