There is a site called OWL (online writing lab) at

http://owl.english.purdue.edu

There is a weath of information on an kind of writing you may need to do whether it be an essay, research paper or poetry.

I actually took a Business Communications course in college which used a similar version of OWL. It helped a lot with format, punctuation, outlines and citation.

Its depends on what kind of essay you're going to write. I saw you have a topic about genetic. It is most likely you will write a persuasive essay. I will just tell you how to write a good persuasive essay.

Basically, a persuasive essay is an essay that you have to convince or to persuave the reader to believe your opinion. You would only pick one side to argue with. You could pick either side.

To make you more understand, I would guide to make an essay about cloning.

The essay question is: Is clonning good or bad?

For this one, I have to argue if it is good or it is bad.

First of all, I would have an "introduction paragraph".
In an introduction paragraph, I would tell the reader what is cloning (eg. Cloning is a technique use to make/copy identical organism. Scientist use restriction enzyme to cut out the DNA then bla bla bla bla...)

Second, I have would have a thesis. The thesis is the last sentence of an introduction paragraph. The thesis is the topic you want to argue with, in this case my thesis would be "Cloning is bad" (Remember, this is still in the first paragraph). The thesis basically answers the essay question.

3rd, I would have the first body paragraph. In this paragraph, I would give one reason why cloning is bad and why people should not clone. I also put a quote to defend my side. Remember, if you have a reading before doing this essay, you should get the quote from it to defend your opinion.

4th, I recommend you to tell another reason why your thesis is correct. Just defend it like in the 3rd step. Yeah, don't forget the quote.

5th, if you want to write another reason to defend your thesis. You can, then just write another paragraph. But I will just tell you to write a conclusion after all of the body paragraphs. In a "conclusion", basically, a summary of what you've said.
