can social security be added to your assets when going through a divorce? Is there really a monatary value that can be added to your income when setteling up what your partner will be able to claim in court?

You need to check with an attorney.

Personally, I’ve never heard of it happening or even being requested. I sincerely doubt it could be included as part of the divorce settlement. In part because it’s not a set amount of money or even guaranteed money. For example, if your ex dies before reaching retirement, he/she never gets a dime.

However, if you were married ten years or more, then you can collect social security benefits after a divorce (once your ex retires). It’s called derivative benefits. But, if you remarry, you’re no longer eligible for that.
