Anime can mean:

1) French word for animation

2) Japanese word for animation of any kind (origin does not matter; Disney films are considered as anime to the Japanese)

3) the great misnomer used to refer to animation of Japanese origin

4) a style of art that is associated with Japanese animation and comics; large eyes, elongated bodies, minimal facial features, and bizarre hair are some convention commonly used (it's not always the case though)

Animators are people who create a series of sucessive images that appear to move when shown in rapid sucession. There are various mediums that can be used for animating. Cel-animation is the traditional hand-drawn animation like you see in the old Disney films. Clay animation involves building a series of figures from clay and taking snapshots of them for every bit of movement required. The animation involving computer-generated graphics is becoming the most popular form of animation. Some films combine mediums together; "Ghost in the Shell" uses both cel-animation and computer generated-images. There are also more unsual methods of animation like that of "The Old Man and the Sea", which uses oil paint on glass.
