Sorta kind of.. I am old enough to remember when it first came out on Broadway and living in NY it was all the buzz that it was based on the Supremes. Newspaper articles, hangers-on trying to write "tell-all" books, etc etc etc. Of course the two surviving Supremes deny this, but you draw your own conclusions.
