It will die.
No teacher will allow that experiment, and no fish will survive the cutting of its entire tail.
The caudal tail is the appendage of the fish that will allow it to be upright (head up) perform rudder functions, and also propel it froward.

In most fish, the Caudal or tail fin is the main propelling fin and the fish could not move without it....resulting in death.

If the caudal fin was removed, the fish would only be able to move using the pectoral fins. it would not be able to propel itself forward as quickly, leaving it easily vulnerable as prey for some predator.

The poor fish would flail its tail uselessly. Predators such as sharks are designed to sense such "distress motion." Your fish would be eaten, if there were any sharks nearby.
