I understand this is a big deal...what i'm sayin is why not focus on his achievements instead of his color, that has nohin to do withh how well the man will coach! I wish him the best of luck, not that we'll need it!

So you're sick of everyone talking about his race. So you decide to make a question TALKING ABOUT HIS RACE!?!
As long as he can coach I dont care if his skin color is purple with green poka dots!
GO STEELERS!!!!

You have to understand just how big of a deal this is to the African-American community. It's more than his skin; it's the fact that at virtually every turn of every conceivable walk of life, they've been shunned, rejected, blackballed, you name it for fear, loathing and whatever reasons others could come up with to hold them down. You're right though, let him coach! If he falls on his face a' la Art Shell, then the Steelers can move on and find someone else. There's a lot of teams that still haven't had an African-American head coach, and when their time comes, it will be the same thing to that franchise as it is to the Steelers, a lot of hype over his color and a lot of heightened expectations. I'm not a Steeler fan, but I say good luck to Coach Tomlin and the Steeler organization!

Try not to watch any of the hype for this year's Super Bowl as all I have heard about is that Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith are the first African American head coaches in the league.

i think it was a good hire, the rooneys started the leagues mandate back in the early's 90s for more plurality in the NFL, at the time cowher was already in place as the coach so they didnt need a coach at the time. i thin what the rooneys did was admirable they made the mandate and followed it by hiring a black coach. tomlin may or may not be a good fit for the steelers but it was a great move by the rooneys.

Sad isn't it? Look at this Superbowl. Smith and Dungy are the first black coaches. If you didn't know that yet then listen to ESPN for about 5 minutes. Who cares? If they were Martians I might find that intresting, but that they are Black big deal.

Its the same with the Superbowl first African American coaches. No I call them American. If we keep bringing up race how do you expect us to get over it? Just lose the title Im not a Irish/German American. Im an American plain and simple. Get on with some real issues people. Peace out..............

What's next - first black general manager? First black cheerleader who is engaged? How many ways can we parse this? Frankly I don't care what his color is, as he is a man before all else.

Unfortunately, we do not live in a color blind society. Race matters because people want it to matter.
