I work in an abattoir, maybe you can get some work there

Most operations such as that have very few paid positions and a lot of unpaid volunteers. A lot of their middle management and such are hired on from their pool of volunteers.
You may have to volunteer with them for some time for them to get to know you and see if you are compatible with them. Kind of like an extended job interview.
Make it clear to them that you really want to work there but without harrassing them about it every day.
