A very long time ago, I worked at a video store in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, and while the job was not all that enjoyable, I, nonetheless, loved movies. The past several years I've lost touch with it all and I am considering getting a job at the local Blockbuster just to re-acquaint myself to it. This store would not be in Manhattan but in more suburban environs.

I am sure the customers at this Blockbuster will have less apparent sophisticated tastes than those in Manhattan. I say apparent because those in Manhattan were often pretentious stupid bores. So, please don't answer my question with the "hicks at Blockbuster not watching supposedly glorious independent film at the art-house theater" theme.

I needs specifics. Do you have to do inventory with a scanner every week? What day of the week is it done where you are at? Is it after closing? Which days do people want off? How many movies can you rent? And on like this?

Sounds like you've got a chip the size of Midtown on your shoulders, no offense.
The inventories are done on a rotating basis, either before or after hours. The days people WANT off are the weekends, obviously. Usually the days off are tuesday and Wednesday, as they tend to be slower days, at least here. How many CAN you rent? You can rent as many as you want,; you're paying for them.
However, on staff Disc.? 4 a week... Personally, if I worked night shift, I borrowed whatever I wanted. AS long as it's back in stock the next day, no-one's the wiser, right?

Good luck....why don't you try to find a smaller video place, rather than FlockF*cksters? I think you'd be happier.

I work at blockbuster. Are you wanting to be a CSR or a Shift leader.?We don't have to do inventory every week. We do it every 90 days. It happens after the store is closed, it takes about 4 or 5 hours, not that hard. We usually do it on Wednesday. You are allowed to rent 5 movies or games a week. You can rent the movies before they come out, or you have to wait until they have been out for 22 days. You have a lot of pressure to sell the rewards program and the new online program. You don't get much recognition for what you do, and they only give raises once a year, if you are doing a good job. If you become a SL, then you get a small raise. The job isn't all that hard. Just have to be good at selling things. checking in the movies is pretty easy too. The most of the days people want off are the weekends, but they tend to mix it up so you have all different hours.Hope that helps.

Nobody got it right yet it looks like. I used to work at McDonald's and "Table" meant making the sandwiches. We usually had two people on table, or just one if it was slow. So on table would mean getting the right wrapper out and putting the condiments on the bun and/or putting the meat on and wrapping it, depending on if you are alone or with someone. I think wrapping them is the easier part on table because you don't have to pay attention to when a new order is coming in, the other person does. "In grill" meant either on table, cooking the hamburger/grilled chicken, or putting the fried meats in the oil vats, three different jobs in grill. So hopefully it's the meats you are saying you don't know :) And don't feel bad about Bloodmoney's comment. 1 in every 8 Americans have worked at McDonald's at some point. That's just McDonald's specifically. (I read an article called "18 Facts About McDonald's That Will Blow Your Mind" recently lol). It's a very common starting place, it is not a job reserved for idiots.

Maybe you should work as a projectionist at a theater instead.
