I would like to think that it can be regarded as an inevitable, but necessary part of evolution. Unfortunately I don't believe this to be the case. Take recent developments in Lebanon. Old wounds are opening (as they did after Tito's death in old Yugoslavia) and hatred - damned up and bottled - is being pouring out everywhere. As long as there are religious divides (esp shia/sunni etc) greed and injustice, we will be accompanied by war in our future. And sadly war begets war as we see in the 'war' against terror.

Well, if you think about this, you will realise that there has always been some sort of conflict in most areas, whatever the cause. War and peace are at opposite ends of a spectrum, so if the war stops will that mean peace or will that mean that the powers that be have decided to do something else. In many cases Conflict has been started by someone producing something simple and someone else being jealous of that thing. Eventually a playground squabble, can mean a punchup followed by the families getting involved, which can lead onto an exponential downward (I suppose the best analogy is a tennis game that gets out of hand) but you get the point. So war and peace are whatever you as an individual make them. Your question, necessary war, no war is necessary, discussions in the pub are necessary, in some cases stating you argument in a forceful way is necessary, diplomacy is necessary, but people get fed up with necessary and the result is war.

Until the all people in the world are happy with what they have and do not want anything there will never be peace. all war is stated by someone with power wanting something from another country, IE oil, money, land etc and the other country not wanting to give them it. it's part of life and will never go away.

No war can result in any lasting peace... wars can only result in some lull before the storm..... peace can only be established through peaceful means!! Human beings are supposed to argue and not fight like animals.

If that were the case, why don't we have peace now? We've had centuries of war.
War happens because not everyone is at home to Mr Reasonable.
War stops when people achieve stability, security and satisfaction at home and stop trying to dominate others.

No. But peace often comes when former enemies grow tired of fighting. It is called the Peace of Exhaustion.

Surely peace wouldn't exist if there was no conflict before hand to form "peace" between two sides.
If there was no conflict EVER, there would be peace between peoples. But I believe we need conflict in order to know what peace is.

While there are humans on earth there will never be true peace. I believe that war is natures way of culling us. We are own predators. It is ourselves that we are fighting and killing.
