The back window of a car can shatter in ANY weather. It usually involves some type of horseplay or vandalism.
Cold weather in itself might crack a rear windshield but not shatter it.
(The front windshield is the "brittle" glass type that shatters easily.)
The reaer window would chip or crack, but not shatter. Something had to hit it hard to shatter it.

i dont think so... is the car airtight? ... i think the glass is not thick enough to shatter. due to temperature difference...
edit: oh the metal parts of the car could have shrunk a lot then...
or the snow could have built up the backside of the car and.... melted in the morning. hehe
