Yousou N'Dour is a name that immediately springs to mind, at least, the only one ;) I've seen Joseph Shambala from Ladysmith Black Mambazo mentioned up there, I suppose that's another... does Egypt count as Africa as well? Of course it does...I bet there are a lot of Egyptian musicians who will be know internationally, the name Khaled rings a bell, but he could be Turkish, I dunno for sure.
I think there's a problem with the term 'African' music... do you want it to mean 'the music of Africa (as a whole)', or just 'music from Africa'... the region is so vast that the former sense is probably redundant, so if you're going for the latter version, I'll stick with Youssou N' Dour, seems as if he's done a lot to gain international recognition.
