i plan to get an industrial, i heard that the pressure on the holes is common and makes it heal slow, i was wondering if when i get it pierced it i can have the piercer put in a PTFE flexible barbell? i know it is bad to use externaly threaded, and the PTFE is, but i heard many good things about these, like they reduce the pain, and pressure. if i do get one of these, will it allow the holes to migrate? also im concidering an orbital instead, are thoes lessy picky? i mean are they less stress to the ear, and heal faster, and hurt less?

Since this is in your cartilage (semi bone), it won't migrate. Only surface piercings migrate (ie. eyebrow piercings). I haven't heard of a flexible barbell, but definitely go with whatever the professional piercer recommends.

Industrial piercings take longer to heal because of pressure put on the ear by the long length of the bar. Orbitals take less time to heal, but can get infected more often because the holes are so much closer. Either way, you're going to have to take care of the piercing really well. Cartilage piercings are a pain because the crevices of the ears can hold bacteria well, sleeping wrong can irritate it, and cartilage tends to be pretty thick. My major recommendation for you is to be very, very consistent in your sea salt cleanings (at least twice a week), change your pillowcases very often, and be careful with hair products (ie. hairspray). I had my orbital for about five years and loved it. The first year I had a pretty big keloid, but after lots of sea salt soaks, it went away.

I don't know about the stress value of an orbital versus an industrial. I had an industrial for a few months but due to poor placement, the holes became very irritated and I had to take it out before I got keloid scars. A PTFE barbell is flexible, and I'm pretty sure that they use them in new piercings, but if the industrial is poorly placed it won't matter what kind of jewelry you have in it. I do know one solution to the problem of pressure during healing: using two CBR's, one in each hole. That way, the piercings can heal separately without the stress of being connected, and when they're ready you can put in a single, longer barbell.
