no cant smell suffering but i can feel your pain, and soothe it.

I don't think it's in the from of smell, it's more a visionary thing. Looking at pictures for me does it, I can normally tell by how a person poses for a picture if they're good, bad, have had problems or in the case of suffering. Not sure how it works for me, but it does.
