This has now been disproved, but it was interesting when it was believed to be undeniable...
Thought Exists,
Therefore existance exists for thought to exist in,
If thought were the only thing that existed in the universe, it would be infinite in parameters, otherwise there would be something that existed outside of it and there would be more than just thought that existed.
If there was more than just thought in the universe, thought would take up a fraction of an infinite space... anything divided by infinity is zero, and therefore nothing would exist.
Therefore, only one thing exists in the whole of the universe, and that is thought.
Have fun...

OK, maybe I need to add a bit of definition to the phrase 'thought exists'. This is a distillation of Descartes' 'I think therefore I am', which was disproved on the basis of the use of 'I'. The only piece that was proven to be true was that thought must exist because by disproving it you are using thought and therefore proving that thought exists. The thought that exists is that thought may not exist.

To understand Geometry it is necessary to "assume" points exist when in reality they don't. the point is a human term for something that human thought created. humans are a collection of "points" in a so-called 3 dimensional space, but it is only human thought that perceives this, and if humans are made up of something that doesn't exist then humans cannot have thoughts. this inability to have thoughts is due to the lack of a functional "brain" to localize said thoughts and lack of a brain is the same as a lack of a conciousness that tells you that you are real. without anything to tell you that you exist then this question is null and void because neither you nor I exist and no one else on earth exists.... Have a Nice Non-Existence!

If you substitute "thought" for "my car" you would prove my car doesn't exist. Since I know my car exists this seems to prove that the universe is finite. Q.E.D. :-)

Evolution does no longer say that some thing comes from no longer something- this might properly be a creationist concept. ABIOGENESIS bargains with how the 1st existence arose from the primordial soup, no longer evolution. Evolution purely bargains with how existence transformations by the years. of direction cells upward thrust up from pre-present cells. What else could they arrive from? airborne dirt and dirt, like the biblical account claims? attempt actual gaining understanding of what cellular concept is- this purely states that cells are the undemanding construction block of all living issues, and are available from different cells, which has little to do with evolutionary concept. Genetics proves evolution (or as on the component of "evidence" as technological information gets). study a e book. One written by ability of an actual scientist, no longer some creationist hack.

if thought was the only thing that exists in the universe how could there be anyone to have thoughts ? also if thought was the only thing that existed what could the thought posibly be about ? would'nt there need to be something else in the universe that the thought was about ? if a brain although capable of thought was supplied with zero input I'm pretty sure it would also have zero output! therefore no thought!

This is just philosophy rubbish that does not relate to the real world.
Thought cant be the only thing in the universe as thought comes from a living existence... therefore, end of discussions.
Even with the bit you have added... still more philosophy mumbo jumbo that is total rubbish.
Ops... looks like no ten points for me

Surely by stating that thought is the only thing to exist within the universe you are actually saying that two things exist , 1 thought and 2 the universe that contains it.
Another thing to think about is whose thinking is creating the thought and are they outside of that thought or is the thought itself thinking itself in some weird self creating paradox

Hmm, can I point out that anything divided by infinity is NOT zero. It is infinitly small, which is as close to zero as it is possible to get without being zero, but it does still exist.
Secondly, let us suppose that two things exist. Two thoughts for example. Their size is proportional to the space they exist in. So their size is infinity divided by two. Infinity divided by (Infinity divided by two) is two.
This can be extrapolated till you get to as many thoughts as you need.

i understand what you are saying...so here is something different for you to think about...
thought only exist in our perception of our existence
if we perceived our existence differently we may not have thoughts
if we do not have thoughts we do not exist according to our perception
if we do not exist we do not think
just headbanging a different slant out for you there, probably highly arguable but thats where you get interesting discussion...lol...;0)
boo to anyone who said this was a contradictory statement/question...that was useless nonsense...shame on you..this is philosophy...not hard science...this is what philosophy is all about questioning accepted ideas and offering things up for discussion and ...dare i say it ...thought...and its its not compulsory to be u your own backside with philosophy...it can be fun too...nuff said...;0)

existence and thoughts. there are two. honestly i have to do a research on this. practically using common sense, thought needs existence to exist.
