Can they back out of giving the bonus??
I was told (via e-mail that i still have) that if i worked split shifts for 3 months, i would get a £500 bonus. Now, 1 week before they pay up, they have decided to anounce that if my atendace was less than 98% over the 3 months, they wont pay up.

The original E-mail had no mention of this, nor have they mentioned this before.

Can they do this??

The original e-mail had no mention of any terms&conditions, and i have not signed any form of contract about it

They can, but it is partially illegal..(In fraud)

you should always ask to see their terms and conditions, and if they don't then don't believe them. Now you cannot do anything..
as you have no sufficient proof that they are not allowed to do this.

Next time just ask for the terms and conditions and keep a copy with you

Print out the e-mail, give them a copy, this sounds to me like a well planned kop out, as for a contract, you should have got one from them before agreeing to do the shifts, you will know better next time, and if they don't pay up, the next time they need anyone to do split shifts, they are going to be bolloxed.

Before you do anything else, speak to your boss, tell him everything you have told us,including that you still have the original email,

Were you getting shift allowances for doing the split shift because you should have been getting them, ask about this also if you weren't.

If you still get no joy,I would tell him you are going to get in touch with ACAS to see where you stand.

God,I hate robbing employers like this one.

If you have acopy of the original email you do have grounds. If you are in the UK telephone ACAS they are very good on the legalities of employment law
