Randy can both sing and play music, plus he is a master arrangement and sound man.
Simon is a record executive and talent scout and puts out between 40 and 50 million dollars in sales each year soley on talent he has found and helped develop. he is not a singer but he knows what will sell and tries to make you marketable.

Paula had a huge making a music career and become married a short time to Emilio Estevez (Charlie Sheen's brother). Simon all began in a mail room at some recording studio and worked his way up. i imagine he turned right into a choose on the united kingdom version of Idol. Randy helped produce songs for the biggies, which contain Moriah, chaka khan, whitney, and so on. I not in any respect heard of Simon or Randy earlier Idol, yet who really is conscious manufacturers names?

Randy is a producer, and used to be in a band...I think it was Earth, Wind, and Fire, but I'm not completely sure. Simon can't sing, he's only a producer as well.

Actually, Simon had his own publishing music label called Fanfare, so he would have an idea about musical talent. Westlife was a band that was under him too, and he's made sure of many record-breaking albums and songs.
As for Randy, he was in a band too and is a record producer too.
Think about it, would a top-rated show like American Idol have judges that have no idea about music and talented musicians?
It sure would be stupid for them to be putting down people everyday if they had absolutely no idea about singing.

i don't know about randy, but simon has admitted he can't sing at all. he is good at picking out singing talent, and he doesn't have to be a good singer to do that.

Singing is secondary to understanding music, stage presence and the chance the contestant will sell music and become a star. Only time will tell how many of the winners they pick will go on to fame.

None of those three have enough talent to say they do so I have never figured out who told them they were good judges if someone else had talent. Just my opinion.
