why would someone do it in a very public place?

It could be a political statement or maybe just because they were hoping someone there would take the time and say no don't do this, I'll help you.

people do it for different reasons. Some people want others to know how frustrated they were. They could be doing it to make a statement about the frustration of a certain segment of society or to highlight an issue that many overlook. It could also be the fact that they don't want their family or loved ones to be the ones to find their bodies.

I'm not too sure...... but the suicide I've heard of are those that jumps off the building.....
