Yes, under current law it is automatically copyrighted simply by virtue of your publishing it.

Your rights are hard to uphold without notice, so it is suggested you include a formal copyright notice on your work, which generally takes the form: Copyright (c) (years) by (author)
as in: Copyright (c) 2007 by KeNeDy or Copyright (c) 2005-2007 by KeNeDy

A range of years is given only if you've modified the content in that time frame (common to software, for instance).

It's good to say "All Rights Reserved." afterwards, for additional protection internationally.

You do not need to formally register your copyright anymore, but if you would like to, the cost is nominal (used to be $15 when I did it last but I suspect it's $25 or $35 by now). You do so with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office by getting the copyright form (I forget - TX-25?) and filling it out and sending in supporting documentation.

For general use, though, there's no need - simply giving a copyright message will suffice.

Yes, copyright has nothing to do with telling the government (perhaps you are thinking of trademark).

If you are uploading photos, just put this at the bottom of your site: Copyright 2007 by [your name]. Technically, not even that is necessary as copyright is implied in most cases.
