You can do two things for this. 1. you can wrap your hand inside a black bin bag and clear it with your hand, or2 Get a floor mop and use this as a plunger. If you use the mop, keep the toilet bowl half full of water to make enough suction.

A good plunger costs £5 or so, and some blockage dissolving bleach costs £3 per bottle (usually in a bright orange bottle in the supermarket). Buy them now and they will last you a long time and you will have them if the toilet becomes blocked again.
If ou don't buy them and improvise something you might make matters worse and need to spend £90 calling a plumber out to fix it. Be smart and use the right tool for the job.

Is it only the toilet that's blocked or are you having problems with your sinks draining? If its more than your toilet, the answer lies in the main sewers being blocked and the water company has to sort that out. If its just your toilet, I'd suggest a quick trip to your local Wickes and get a toilet plunger and operate it until the blockage clears

This happened to me at New Year time. As long as the water doesn't go over the top when you flush it, then flush it once, then get a wire coat hanger and untangle it and try and make it the shape of the u tube, whilst its flushing keep jamming it under and try to dislodge whatever it is. Keep doing this quite a few times
Then...wait a bit until all the water has filtered out (if it does) you can fill a bucket of water from the bath and chuck it down really forcefully as this may dislodge it. Do this a few times.
I dont reccomend this if you think your toilet will overflow.

First attempt -lots of warm water (not too hot or you might crack your loo) poured in may soften / dissolve something.
Second attempt if first fails - untwist a wire coat hanger - make it into the right shape to get round the bend and vigorously swizzle it around. Then throw the coat hanger away.
Third attempt if the first two fail - try the same trick with a hose with the water flowing through it.
Fourth attempt - revert to your hands if you can cope with it.
Good luck :)

LADIES SANITARY NAPKINS AND TAMPONS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR CLOGGING UP A TOILET. ALWAYS PUT THEM IN A SEPARATE BAG. TO UNCLOG THE TOILET NOW YOU CAN TRY A CAN OF CHEMICAL FROM THE STORE. THEN NEXT I ASSUME WOULD BE A SNAKE . YOU COULD TRY A PLUNGER AFTER THE CHEMICAL HAS SET FOR A WHILE. IT WILL SAY ON THE DIRECTIONS. OF COURSE PLUMBERS WILL DO IT BUT OF COARSE THERES A FEE. IF YOU HAVE A TRUSTED FRIEND OR NEIGHBOR THEY MAY HAVE A SNAKE. ASK AROUND AND CALL AROUND.

i read a magazine article recently where someone recommended tipping a kettle's worth of recently boiled water into the toilet bowl, leave it for a minute, and then flush it. u could give it a go, and if it doesn't help then i'm afraid that u will have to try clearing the blockage with your hands. i hope u have some rubber gloves !!!
