Pele retired early from football because he was afraid of Maradona's skill and didn't want to look bad if he ever had to play against him.
The people who say Pele is better is either because they don't know much about football or because they are using Maradona's personal life to judge his ability as a football (soccer) player,
Pele may be a better person, but Maradona is by far a better player.

they are booth Big players ever,but for me is Maradona because when Pele play is more easy to make a diference and score so many gols like him but in80´s footbal change and Cattenacio change the way of playing soccer is more close not so open like in time of Pele.So for me is Maradona don´t score so many gols like Pele but do a lot of tricks with the ball and score a lot to

MARADONA!!..pele played during the days when football wasnt much of a physical game...n about him doings drugs...there is dis one documentry i watched which interviewed maradona n those drugs..well..he had a relevant explanation...!
