You need to use a clean container, cut the bottoms of the flowers off at a angle under water. Don't use cold water, they like it Luke warm. Take all the leaves that are going to be in the water off,as these will cause it to get slimy from decomposing plant tissue. Add some flower preservative.I have a recipe, one gallon of water, one tsp.lemon juice,1/2 tsp.sugar,1/4tsp.bleach. I rarely use that one. I put 1/4 aspirin and a little 7-up,or any clear soda into warm water. Every 2-3 days when you change the water, cut another little bit from the bottoms.I've had roses last two whole weeks that way. Good Luck,Bye.

keep the water clean, clear, and cool!
(not cold just cool!)
Make sure the container is not growing any "slime" on the inside of the container.
