The embryonic stage is formed after from the sperm and the oocyte coming together to form the fertilized oocyte. The fertilized eggs undergoes changes in its structure through differentiation and proliferation of cells to form these three layers (ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm). It is call the embryonic stage when these 3 layers occur. The cells in these layers eventually form different parts of an adult. For example, parts of the ectoderm give rise to the skin, the mesoderm gives rise to muscle and the endoderm gives rise to the digestive tract.
