What is ugly? When people tell somebody "you are ugly", is it really so or they just want to humiliate the other person?
Why, when someone asks "am I ugly", the others always answer "yes"?

Everything is beautiful. There is no "ugliness", it is just the "lack of the presence of beauty". If one thing doesnt' strike you as beautiful, you say it is ugly. But somebody else might rank the same as beautiful. It all depends on the sight and opinion of the seer... And i think it just for fun or for humiliating that people say that someone is ugly... :-)

ugliness, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. most people look at bodies and think someone is hot, when their face looks like a dog. some pretty faces have disgusting personalities behind them and they are truly ugly. Sometimes people are just being mean, and usually because they project an insecurity (not necessarily the same one) out onto others to make themselves fell better when it really shows how small they are.

Usually the ones I find beautiful others will not, and the ones they do, I will not. It is something that is truly undefineable. Take Ugly Betty ... I see she is beautiful, no matter what they do to try to defile America G.'s beautifulness, the character itself is quite adorable because she isn't shallow like the average person today in society. The same as Drew Barrymore's role in Never Been Kissed is awesome, where are the girls like that?! Personality can make the real beauty or ugliness of people, and right now, most people look like they should be ringing the bell at notre dame instead of the hunchback.

Ugly is cultural. Generally, fat is ugly, and people with asymmetrical features on their faces are considered ugly. This stems from an evolutionary perspective. For example, it is much more healthier for people to have thin waistlines, which correlates with a longer life. Symmetrical faces, like denzel washington's, are at an advantage when it comes to socialization with peers.
