I can get cheap tickets for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra playing Mahler: Des Knaben Wunderhorn and Mahler: Symphony No.1,‘Titan’. I've never heard of him before and don't really listen to classical music (apart from the obvious beethoven and mozart classics). Do you think i would enjoy mahler and is it recognisable??

Mahler I think might be hard to sit through for a first-timer. At least it's not Der Kindertotenlieder (Songs on the Death of Children). I don't know if Mahler is all that recognizable.
Are they doing any Bach?
Maybe for someone who doesn't really listen to classical music, something with a chorus might be good to start with. Often an orchestra will perform a work with a chorus or soloist. Of course, I may be somewhat biased since I'm a vocalist!

I think you would find Mahler a little heavy going. Start with something lighter like Mozart / Vivaldi / Chopin / Strauss etc.
I love Mahler's Symphony No. 5 but I can only listen to it when I am in the right mood, a deep and dark one.

Mahler??? Odd thing is that the only people I know who likes him are all Jews. The thing is Mahler is a Nazi!! I could listen to him, but I don't know about a concert. Your stuck there for a while.
