Hi,
If a place accepts the type of card (ie: Visa, Mastercard), then it will work. I used mine in Japan a few times while I was living there and it worked fine for me (hopefully someone at home will pay the bill for you if you're staying for an extended period of time!).

Yes, but remember that Japan is not a credit based society. When my grampa bought me a bike at the local department store, it was a big fuss for them to use his credit card. This was 6.5 years ago, so it might be different now (4.5 since I lived there). I only used my CC once or twice the entire time I was there. Generally, cash is used for all transactions.
Stake out places where your bank card will work to take out cash - some major department stores and banks have ATMs that will let you withdraw cash from a home account.
And you should have no problems at hotels (not ryokans, they may not take credit cards as readily)!

Yes. The major cards are international. if you want a cash advance on a visa, I believe you have to use the Japan Post ATM's. They are everywhere, but almost never 24 hours.
Look out for the additional costs levied by your card on foreign transactions.

What kind of credit card is it, Master Card, Visa, or American Express? If it is one of the those, it should be fine. In addition, even a david card with PLUS! icon can be used.

Yes, they will work no problem in places like hotels and department stores. If you go out to the rural areas, you may find that there are places that won't accept international credit cards because they don't want to go through the presumed hassle. But if you go to the normal tourist areas, you should have no problems. Remember, if you spend more than 10,000 yen(about $117.00) you can get the sales tax returned to you for non-perishable items. You just need to show your passport.
Enjoy your trip.

Yes. It'll work. Don't worry. I've used my American credit cards here and I haven't had any problems.
