I am a student, with a excellent academic record. For a few months I have lacked the blazing motivation that kept me on track and on top. Even though I try I can't retain and revive the determination I had. Please help me.

~it sounds to me as if there is some emotional block... has there been an "event" that you are ignoring/trying to push down/not facing... what is it? Why don't you want to see it/face it/deal with it? Is it to painful/to much work/going to detour your life?
Everything happens for a reason... and when we lack motivation/feel empty/lack focus... it's usually because we are ignoring a major issue that we should be facing. What's yours? If you saw a stranger going thru this same struggle, what would you tell them right now?
And, what would you suggest that they do about it?
God bless you. I said a prayer for you.
Be open to your life and you will find the joy in it.

As another poster said, review your diet and exercise routine. A little exercise and a balanced diet are more important than is apparent at times. Also, are you getting a chance to interact with other people? It is important to have good, positive interaction with other people on a regular basis through sports, clubs, social events, etc. Though, of course, not to the detriment of school work and duties. Isolation is bad for the brain. :)

After that, maybe list out some of your goals for the future. List what is important to you and what you are doing to stay in line with those things.

Temporary depression is a very normal and healthy reaction to something being "not quite right". It is your body/mind's way of saying that you need to affect some change in your life. Maybe you should journal a bit and see what the reoccuring themes are?

If all of that doesn't work and the depression persists, or if you have suicidal thoughts, get help right away. It is something to take very seriously.

Good luck!

you're not alone. i used to be a top student too, back when i was little. but ever since i turned around nine or ten yrs old, depression took over me. I somehow got over that depression over the years but there's some still remaining until now. so far i haven't gotten an academic award yet but my grades is slightly improving. whenever my parents talk to my teachers they'd usually find out that i'm only a point or two away from getting an award. It's been like that for a few years now but no matter what they tell me is not enough for me to get motivated. i think depression slowly made me turn into a lazy bum.

What's your diet like? Have you been burning the candle at both ends for a while now?

Head to the doctor; it might be as simple as a mineral/vitamin deficiency. What you eat and how much rest you get will greatly influence your moods and motivation. Get a blood test and see if you're lacking in something.

Years ago I was worried I had an onset of depression, then the GP told me it was only an iron deficiency. A couple of supplements later, everything was back to normal.

Better consult a psychiatrist .He will be able to track the root cause of your depressed mood and lift your motivation togreater heights. You are good in academic records and that is enough to keep up your spirits.
Take active interest in rending help to weak students in your class and that will keep you occupied and happy.
Wish you good luck!

I think that your system has accumulated a lot of fatigue.

Take the rest you need, and don't let any a** h*** tell you you are lazy.

Another thing too, are you in the right program?

Often lack of motivation comes from the fact that you are in something that is not right for you, but you are in it because you are fulfilling the expectations of family or society.

You have to stand up to people who want to tell you what is best for your life when in reality they just want to control you and rob you of your freedom.

Find out what you really want to do in life and then pursue that.

Ask yourself this? Do you feel lonely? Are you taking care of yourself and putting yourself first before anything or anyone else? If not you need to re-evaluate your position in life at this moment in time. If you feel you aren't lonely and you are taking care of yourself and you are #1 in your life then you need to do what many people do to get motivated. Pretend you are going to be in the spotlight WORLDWIDE and i mean make it a reality in your mind. The best person to lie to is yourself.........we do it so well. Tell yourself your going to be a star and you will become one. Believe me suddenly there is motivation. Lie lie lie to I to over rate is to motivate!

I suggest you practice meditation and pranayamam early in the morning every day. You will find yourself motivating in day two.
