Otsuka for Brent Myers. Phillies are desperate for a setup man. Otsuka is unhappy here in Texas. We need 1 more reliable pitcher to become playoff contender. Why not offer Otsuka and Jason Botts for Myers? Phillies are looking to unload him. Millwood, Padilla, Myers, McCarthy, Wright sounds like a respectable rotation.

I find a couple of problems with this trade proposal.

The first is that I don't recall ever reading about the Phillies wanting to get rid of Brett Myers, in fact I read the other day that they are looking into getting a contract extension figured out. Myers is only 26-years-old he averages 13 wins, 196 IP and 164 K per season...the Phillies would be insane to give up on that kind of talent. Especially now that the team looks as competitive as it has in years. Jon Lieber of the Phillies is trade-bait, not Myers.

In addition, the Philles recently added veteran Antonio Alfonseca to be one the primary set-up men for the ageless Flash Gordon.

The final arguement is one many people have mentioned, that being the questionable health of Gagne. He hasn't managed to stay healthy in 2+ seasons and that is enough to urge any team to keep some sort of insurance policy. The Rangers have a solid club with a good mix of veterans and youngsters both in the offense and the rotation. So if the team wants to contend it will far much better with two stopgaps who can handle the ninth inning as opposed to one with a questionable record of staying healthy.

Don't forget, the Rangers farm system has a solid crop of young arms any one of whom could step up in a big way in Spring Training. Right now a rotation of Millwood, Padilla, McCarthy and a mix of young guns looks pretty good when compared to some of the other rotations in the AL West.

So...in my opinion this wouldn't be the best trade for either side.

As a Rangers fan I wouldnt do that trade. Botts is going to be too good in a couple of years, and Otskua is insurance for Gagne. There is no guarentee that Gagne will be any good, so the Rangers need to keep Otsuka.

Otsuka at this point is more valuable to the Rangers. He's the key set up man and could take over as the closer if Gagne gets hurt or struggles.

im a huge rangers fan, but with gagne as the new closer you need a good setup so keep otsuka. if you dont have a good enuogh pitcher to get to gagne then he's wasted, with gagne and osuka on the team the rangers starters only have to give them 6-7 strong innings

Sounds like a good trade for both sides, and Otsuka would be a good closer when Gordon's contract ends

I don't know if Myers is a good fit for us. We need a good starter. And what if Gagne gets injured again? If that happens, we need Otsuka.

hell, i'm a rangers fan, but there's no way the phils take that. myers is a stud, otsuka isn't a proven stud yet, and i'm pretty sure we all know botts isn't a proven stud.
