Ive had rats for years and Ive never seen one do this before..I'll explain:

I got a new rat today and he's still petrified of everything. He's been hiding in the corner all day..now he finally moved into a tube I have in there..

One of my other rats approached him and the new one squealed at him. The old rat then turned around, and backed into the tube the new one was in, butt first. Then he wiggled his butt around a little and came out again. He did this a few times.

what the heck, is he doing?

Any information would be helpful, if you need more details just let me know. Thanks in advance.

As always, I feel the need to add, rat haters need not reply. I know you hate them, and I do not care. Thank you, have a nice day

Actually, thats the first time thats ever happened in all my years of owning rats.. And every time ive ever bought a new rat it was usually to put in a cage with another rat.. I'd always ask if it was okay to do so and all the pet store people always said yes..No one ever mentioned putting them in a different cage for a few days first..*hmm*..I guess you learn something new every day. I wish they'd told me that when I asked so my poor little boy didnt have to get the crap scared out of him

Dani, did you do a quarantine on your new rat? A period of two weeks in a separate cage away from your older rat. This is to make sure the new rat doesn't have any diseases, or illnesses that can be passed on to your older rat.

Did you do a slow, steady introduction over time, or did you just place the new rat in the cage of the older rat?

Dani, your new ratty is PETRIFIED. You have put him into a cage that reeks of testosterone and territorial rights of the older males. The sidling, the bum thumps, the crowding are all the ways that a dominate male rat shows the other rat who's the boss and he's really intimidating your new boy. Thank goodness the new boy is readily backing down or you'd be having a rootin', tootin' rat fight by now.

Still might be a fight? I've even had familiar cage mates fight among themselves when a new boy comes onto the scene. By putting a new boy in with an established colony, you are disrupting the pecking order, and the harmony of the group. They have reestablished who's the boss and who's the subordinates.

You need to put the new boy in a cage of his own and start the introductions again. More slowly this time.

You probably should have put the new rat into a freshly cleaned cage or better still a new cage and it would have been better if he had been on his own for awhile(perhaps a day) then you could have added others. Your other rat is just showing him that he is not afraid of him at all and possibly he wants to boss him around if he ever comes out of the tube. The others will probably pick on him and he knows this. That is why he is scared poor fellow. If you only have the one cage their is not much you can do. Relationships will be sorted out but it means that he will be beaten up a bit. Hopefully nothing serious. Usually it is just a performance and he will do the right thing and act very low.

it would not sound in any respect like she's in warmth. rats in warmth are many times a concepts more desirable skittish and lively than time-honored, and could run round busy busy. it sounds so a lot more desirable like a respiratory an infection. in case you ever observe some thing unusual about the way a rat is respiratory you should take them to the vet, as they go with medical treatment once attainable. the outcomes of a respiratory an infection can get serious very immediately, and left untreated you both have a useless rat, or a rat with everlasting scarring to the respiratory tract, which ability they're going to fall ill in many cases for some thing of their life. quick action saves trouble and money interior the destiny.
