My husband and I have been trying to conceive and I have bought every book on the market, LOL. There is actually only one lubricant that does not kill or interfere with sperm motility. It is called Pre-Seed. Even though KY is advertised as being sperm-friendly, research actually shows that it's PH can kill sperm. Definitely do not use anything oil-based such as Vasolene. Sperm have a very difficult time getting to where they are supposed to be and Vaseline will make it even more difficult. Hope this helps. I have been trying to do everything the books say!!!

When we decided to start our family we ummm made deposits, everyday for a month, sometimes 2-4 times a day. We had twins that time. the second time even with a condom, we had a suprise pregnancy and conceived our last.
Trying to get pregnant is all about timing. I didn't want to take a chance on missing it or depend on tests to tell me when I was ovulating, and I love making love to my husband and vice versa so it wasn't hard to do the everyday for a month thing. lol Hope this helps you and good luck in bringing a little one into your lives.
