I have a Pajero which is the Higher Spec Japanese import version, we have found it totally reliable. It is the 2.8 Turbo Diesel version, I get around 28 mpg on diesel and 30 mpg if I use a mix of 40percent clean veggie you can also convert to run 100percent veggie oil but you must register with C&E. UK Shoguns tend to show their age more (they don't salt the roads in Japan) check out www.pocuk.co.uk . There are lots of Pajeros out there for sale buy the best you can afford with japanease auction history from a good dealer who should give you a one year warrenty. No problems with parts either buy from a specialist such as Millners Off Road or if you want Mitsubishi UK now supports imports 100percent but they are expensive. Insurance via the owners club is very cheap I have full NCB and my renewal fully comp was only £290. Good luck in your quest to buy one.

Depends on your tastes. The Evo is a great car, with power, looks, the whole package. The only thing that might disappoint you is the lack of comfort. The Evo is a great track car, but not the best daily driver for your typical driver. If you can deal with it day to day, then great, but remember this is a rally bred street car and it maintains that edge. And Mitsubishi does have some issues, which is what ultimately led me to Subaru. Not that I'm trying to lead you that way, but the STi is a much easier car to live with. AWD is great in the snow, so you should have no real worries there. If you do decide to get one, now you've just got to decide between getting the current Evo IX or waiting for the X to come out.....

If you must, i.e. live in a rural area and not just for the school run, then ensure you are buying a kosher Shogun and not a Pajero, 2 reasons the Pajero will probably have come from Japan with different parts, more expensive to insure and no service history, oh and the word Pajero is Spanish slang for Wa*ker.

transmissions ... had one go out on before at 30,000 miles. 97 Eclipse Spyder Turbo (GS-T). Looked really nice, but not reliable. During that same time, my neighbor with a 3000GT VR4 engine started smoking, and another person with a 3000GT tranny went out. be wary of mitsubishi.
RX-7s are nice, but have the compression tested in the engine. The most fun car I have ever had (and I have had a lot of nice, fast cars).
it will also eat up gas. going from 16 mpg to 35 mpg is an amazing difference. I filled up every week before, now I fill up every month or two. Prices will go back up, and $40 every month is a whole lot better than $160 (plus insurance savings). But, I still wouldn't mind having another RX-7 to play with once in a while.

Shoguns are great vehicles - we had one some years ago and traded it in for a Land Rover Freelander, worse thing we've ever done, we are going back to a Shogun asap.

They are not as reliable as they should be, oil pans leak, they look boring. Have a look at the big Toyotas instead.
Have you thought about an old landie for towing and a car as a daily driver
