Q: When is it safe to start having sex after delivery?
A: Well that depends. The worst thing that can happen is infection. But some women have stopped bleeding entirely by four weeks postpartum, especially the c-section deliveries. That means the cervix is now closed, and if all other lacerations and cuts have healed, that makes the risk of infection no more than it would be usually.
So yes, usually by 4 weeks postpartum, most women IF they have stopped bleeding entirely are ok to have a nice mellow version of straight sexual intercourse. Of course, you have to use birth control, and it may not be that comfortable if you had a tear or episiotomy, in fact it may be very uncomfortable.
You will not be the first to have already had sex by your 6 wk check, believe me I hear that quite a bit. However, it's generally not because the woman really wants to, it's generally to please the husband.

Have sex when you feel you are ready and not a minute before. There will be plenty of time for sex after your mind and body are healed and it will be much more pleasurable if you are both interested.
No matter how long you wait by all means use birth control. I was on fertility treatments to get pregnant with my daughter so we weren't real worried about the one time we had sex about 3 weeks after she was born. My 5 week check up showed that I was pregnant with my youngest. Boy was that a surprise!!!! 2 girls in the same calendar year!

It's best to wait a full six weeks so she is not prone to infection. My husband and I only lasted three weeks. Nothing bad happened but I was worried I would get an infection. P. S. Use lube it really helps a lot for a little while after. Good luck!

Most doctors recommend 6 weeks. It may vary for each individual though depending on your personal birthing experience. Talk to your doctor, talk to your spouse, and have fun.

It depends on if the birth was Caesarean or vaginal. However, it is up to the woman and how she feels. First, consult your obstetrician.

You wait until it doesn't hurt.
Otherwise it's not fun at all.
