The best movie I have seen in the past year was Children of Men. I dont know if it was actually in 2006, but i think it did officially come out in 06. Anyways, that movie made me feel like i was there. The way they filmed it was really good. The sound was absolutely phenomenal too. Lots of action and suspense and original story line (too me atleast). Kind of violent, but worth it.
