Which do you root for in the coming Academy Awards:
1. Best Picture: Babel, The Departed, Letters from Iwo Jima, Little Miss Sunshine, or The Queen?
2. Best Actor: Leonardo di Caprio, Ryan Gosling, Peter O'Toole, Will Smith, or Forest Whitaker?
3. Best Actress: Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Helen MIrren, Meryl Streep, or Kate Winslet?

I'm rooting for Babel, Will Smith, and Kate Winslet, though I think Babel, Leonardo Di Caprio, and Helen Mirren are most likely to win.

I haven't seen all the pictures yet .But, having said that, here are my thoughts on the competition:
1. Best Picture. This may be the year of Martin Scorsese, who has been slighted year after year by the Academy, because he is a New York director, not part of the Hollywood establishment. If so, then The Departed may get the nod. Sad that Jack Nicholson was slighted by no nomination.
2. Best Actor: My heart says Peter O'Toole, because he has been slighted too often for his wonderful career; I understand Will Smith's picutre is a good-feeling story of a man overcoming homelessness, and is wonderful. Forest Whitaker is breathtaking in his portrayal of Idi Amin,but it is a downer of a subject matter. In the end.....Leonardo di Caprio will win because his picture of the dirty trade in blood diamonds in Africa is politically correct, and di Caprio is hot this year.
3. Best Actress. Helen Mirren. Her portrayal of Britain's Queen Elizabeth is understated and quiet, but she is showing what she has got as an actress. Dench has won before, and her film is lesser known. I have not seen Cruz or Winslet's films. Sorry. Understand Streep was good but the film only got so-so reviews.

I think Babel will win for best picture, but I'm rooting for Little Miss Sunshine, that movie was adorable and it touched my heart. Forest Whitaker will win best actor, I'm rooting for Ryan Gosling in Half Nelson. Helen Mirren will most likely win best actress, she deserves it, she's incredible in everything she does.

for best picture i think, the Departed, but then the Queen is good as well.

Best Picture would be either Little Miss Sunshine or The Queen. No chance for others.

Babel reminds me of last year's winner, Crash. Neither film deserves or deserved it.
