You need to have a tri-band phone and you have to turn on roaming before you leave PI. Also Smart requires you to have at least P100 load to activate roaming when you leave. If it was working and then it stopped, maybe somebody there went to the Smart Service Center and made some changes to your number? Smart used to be ok but I think Globe is better now. My wife and I both switched last August when we were there. We don't have any problems with Globe

I was in California last year. I am paying my phone on a monthly basis at SMART. I thought that would be the best when I go to the US. A day before I went to their office for International Roaming. I had already done it when I was in Hongkong x 3 days. I hadnt encountered any problem then. However, my experience in the US is different. My first stop was in San Francisco x 1 month. My phone was apparently ok. However, when I transferred in Concord, I cant anymore send or receive any messages. I went to VERIZON, T-Mobile to consult my phone's problem. However, they didnt have that model so they cant determine what is causing it.
I communicate with SMART and they cant determine its problem if they dont see the phone. I send it back to the Philippines and it was repaired by another center and I was given another number by SMART.
When I arrived in San Diego, I had met a couple from the Philippines whose phone was also under SMART, they encountered the same problem.
I have talked with some friends and they said that GLOBE is the best and more cheaper when it comes to INTERNATIONAL ROAMING. I will go back this July and will definitely buy another phone and use GLOBE instead of smart. The nightmare, I was still charged despite the fact the I wasnt able to use my phone for almost 1 month.
