First thing:
"Sounds like it's time to visit a garage very soon. Explain your situation to the mechanics & don't leave out any info."
Listen up. If this person wanted to take it to a mechanic, they would have taken it to the F#)$ mechanic. Obviously, the reason they are posting in here in the first place, is so they dont have to take it to a mechanic. This could be as easy as cleaning a throttle body. The mechanic would charge... what.. $300 to do that, when this person could do it in a matter of minutes for the cost of a bottle of throttle body cleaner and a toothbrush (and if its a used toothbrush, they are not even spending money on that)!
I disagree with the cps sensor causing this fault, because your check engine light would be on. the fact that it dies in reverse, strengthens my theroy that it is a dirty throttle body/iac.
I really dont know how much you know about your car... i dont even know if you know what a throttle body is.
It will look similar to this:
http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/autopartsphotos/throttle_bodies/3809.jpg
Unscrew it from the manifold, disconnect the iac harness. and spray throttle body cleaner in it, scrub around with an old toothbrush, then then rinse it with more cleaner.
Im gonna say im 80% sure this is the problem.

Could be transmission CCV lock up. Does it still stall if you shift into neutral?
If it is CCV it is like stuck in overdrive but the the engine speed and torque cause's it to stall when you try to stop.
Usually the car has to be warm and you have to have reached over 45 before it will misbehave.
Sometimes they can be unplugged.

Obviously isnt revving high enough in neutral, causing the engine to stall out.
Sounds like it needs a TUNE UP :)

My jeep was doing the exact same thing. It needed a new crank sensor. It would start and run fine until it was warmed up,then would just die on me at a light or stop sign.I'm far from a mechanic, but that was my problem.

agreed
check your idle
you can up the idle yourself.
I'd try that process of elimmitaion first.
I assume when youre at a light if you stay at a steady rev it wont stall?

sounds like the idle is too low.
