The simple answer is. No it is not based on oil
The longer answer is.
It started because the American people wanted it to. Then they forgot that when people started dieing and blamed it on the president. Yet he did not send us to war he just did not veto the bill when congress voted for us to go. Congress made the bill to go due to an outcry from the American people.
If you don't believe me go back and look up news papers, magazines, and for news clips from shortly before we went to war.
The news polls where any where from 70%-90% saying we should attack. Those are the same people who today say it was wrong and the president was wrong for starting the war.
Most people on here will say it was for oil but they probably also think it was the president not congress that put us there. If that was the case it would be a policing action or military action not a war. War means congress voted and sent us in.
Most of the true cause was bad intelligence and Saddam's unwillingness to comply with every single demand of the UN inspectors that had been in his country for years and found nothing. All the morality stuff and all the other junk came in after we found out our intel was bad.
Basically it comes down to we made a mistake and the US people still had a blood lust that had not calmed down yet after Sept. 11.
ON A SIDE NOTE
I would not watch Fahrenheit 911 until you are an adult and well aware of how people use tricky phases, false logic and emotion to distort things. It is a very charges one sided misleading move that should be analyzed carefully before you believe any ideas from it. Sensationalized sources are never good sources of information.

beneficial. Iraq is located interior the midsection east. the midsection east delivers a large style of the oil for u.s. and something of the international. The conflict in Iraq is an attempt to convey stability and democracy into that turbulent center east section. it would desire to no longer jibe properly with liberals, yet we gained't have radical maniacs controlling a community that the whole international is so based upon. The ironic concern is, people who're so vehemently against the conflict and calling it no longer something greater advantageous than an oil grab, are the 1st ones to pass against any attempt by ability of the U. S. to drill for its very own oil locally.

Yes and No Bush wants oil because we are running low in supply here in the united states attacking iraq would give him control of oil and cheney loves it because he owned an oil refinery called halliburton. We need to start searching for alternatives like green style technologies more hybrids and wind power. Here we are heading toward the future and we still don't have the smartness to acquire these technologies, the rest of the world is ahead of us like china & japan it's pathetic.

This war was started so that the US could take over oil fields. RECORD profits from the oil companies? No bid contracts? The people who are getting rich is the reason for the Iraq war. Follow the money trail!!!
